Chakli

Ingredients

  • 1 cup urad dal cooked and ground
  • 4 cups of rice flour
  • 2 tablespoons of jeera
  • 2 tablespoons of thil
  • 1/4 teaspoon hing
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups of oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup of heated oil to mix with the dough

Directions

  • Mix ground urad dal, rice flour, jeera, thil, and hing.
  • Heat 1 cup of heated oil to the mixture.
  • Mix the dough, add little water if needed to make a soft pliable dough.
  • Heat 3 cups of oil.
  • Prepare chakli mold, add dough to the mold.
  • Press chakli on to a greased banana leaf.
  • Drop this into the heated oil.
  • The chakli should turn golden brown or slightly brown as per your taste, remove from the oil.
  • Let the excess oil drain on paper.
  • After the chakli’s are cool, store it in a tight container.
