Idli Batter Dumplings

Ingredients

  • Oil spray
  • 2 cups idli batter
  • 1 medium onion
  • ½ grated carrot
  • ¼ cup grated coconut
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 tbsp cut coriander leaves
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • Appam griddle

Directions

  • Add the finely diced onions, grated carrots,ginger, grated coconut and the finely cut chilies to the idli batter
  • Add the salt and asfoetida and mix well
  • Heat the appam griddle and once hot , spray the pan generously with the oil spray and put the batter in the griddle.
  • Cook covered on a low to medium flame for 3-5 mins and then flip the dumplings over to cook on the other side.
  • Another generous spray of oil will help to cook the dumplings. After another 2-4 minutes, the dumplings can be removed from the griddle
  • The key is to have the dumplings browned on all sides or cooked
  • Enjoy with ketchup or coconut chutney
