Spinach Masiyal

Ingredients

  • Spinach 2 cups
  • Mustard seeds ½ tsp
  • Urad dal 1 tsp
  • Turmeric a pinch
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Water 1 cup
  • Red chilly 1
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 1 tsp

Directions

  • Take water in a pan and allow to boil
  • Wash and cut the spinach leaves finely
  • Once the water boils, add the spinach and cook for 5-7 mins
  • Add the turmeric, asafoetida and salt 
  • Remove from fire and drain some water if required
  • A quick 2 sec pulse in the blender will mash the spinach
  • Heat the oil in the pan and once hot add the mustard seeds
  • Once they splutter add the urad dal 
  • Once the dal turns golden brown add the red chilly 
  • Remove from the stove and season the spinach
