The Seven Vows – Saptapadi

Saptapadi also known as 7 vows in the Hindu wedding symbolizes the bride and the groom’s commitment of mutual respect, love, peace, friendship and loyalty to each other for lifelong, through thick or thin, to their families and to their future children.  Even though these vows were created centuries ago, it still holds true in today’s world to guide a couple for a blissful married life.   

First Step  

The couple commits to each other to provide for their household, carry out their responsibilities and duties to one another, their tradition and their families. 

Second Step 

The couple commits to develop their spiritual and mental strength to lead a happy life. 

Third Step 

The couple commits to preserving wealth and stay committed to each other.   

Forth Step 

The couple commits to respect and love each other and their families.  They pledge to build trust in the relationship and respect their elders. They make mutually acceptable decisions and live a life of harmony. 

Fifth Step 

The couple promises to instill good values in their children and take care of them.  They ensure the best upbringing of their children. 

Sixth Step 

The couple pray to God to bestow them with good health and a long and peaceful life together.  They promise to support each other in all aspects of their life. 

Seventh Step 

The seventh step the couple makes a vow to be united together for eternity.  They will be lifelong friends, be loyal and love each other.
