Krishna Janmashtami

There are many stories of Lord Krishna, but on of them is regarding mother earth, burdened as she was with too many sinners could not bear the pain anymore, approached Lord Brahma, the creator. When asked about her plight, she responded by saying she was suffering from all the adharma that was going on this earth and requested is intervention. Lord Brahma in turn prayed to Lord Vishnu for his help. Lord Vishnu accepted Lord Brahma’s prayers and assured that he would take birth on Earth and rid Earth of all these evils!

Raksha Bandhan

This festival is celebrated across North and Central India.  The word “Raksha” means protection and “Bandhan” means Bond. 

Mangala Gauri

Gowri festival is significant festival in the South. The same festival is celebrated as Hartalika in North India. This festival is celebrated one day before Ganesh Chaturthi. She is mother of Lord Ganesh, wife of Lord Siva. It is said that Goddess Gowri comes home like any married woman comes to her parents’ house. The next day Lord Ganesh, her son, comes to take her back to her home in Kailas.
