Mutter Paneer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 cup paneer cut into pieces, soaked and roasted
  • 1 onion minced
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 3 tomatoes chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 10 whole cashews
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro to garnish

Directions

  • In a sauce pan heat 2 tablespoons of ghee, add cumin seeds, let it splutter.
  • Add onion and garlic, roast until they are translucent.
  • Add tomatoes and keep stirring until the raw smell is no longer there.
  • Stir in turmeric powder, ginger and cashews, cook for 5 minutes.
  • Let the mixture cool and blend until smooth or use the hand held blender to puree it.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a pan, add bay leaf and the onion, tomato puree.
  • Fold in chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, cumin powder, black pepper powder, cinnamon powder and salt.
  • Whisk in yogurt, stir until it mixes well.
  • If needed, add water and let it come to a boil.
  • Fold in the paneer cubes and green peas and cook until the peas is done.
  • Garnish with cilantro.
