Tomato Onion Gotsu

Ingredients

  • Onions 2
  • Tomatoes 3
  • Garlic cloves 2-3
  • Curry leaves      few
  • Red chillies 2
  • Oil 2tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Urad dhal 1 tsp
  • Chilly powder 1tsp
  • Turmeric ½ tsp
  • Sugar ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Salt ½ tsp
  • Cilantro for garnish

Directions

  • Heat the oil and add mustard seeds and allow it to splatter.
  • Then add urad dal and red chillies and sautee for 15 secs.
  • Next add the curry leaves and minced garlic.
  • After 30 secs or so, add the finely cut onions and sautee till translucent or 3-4 mins.
  • Next add the turmeric and chilly powder and the sugar.
  • Now add ½ cup water and allow the mixture to cook for about 10 mins.
  • At the end add the salt and a pinch of asafoetida and garnish with chopped cilantro.
  • This chutney could be served with idli, dosa and chapathis and can also be eaten with rice.
